In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is expensive in the United States of America just as medical expenses. I had contacted several clinics. Most of them wanted a consultation fee ($300-$450). I was told I’ll need a minimum of $10,000 just to start the exams. This does not include treatments or medications.
My chance of conceiving and hopefully giving birth to a child was slimmed considering my low-income status and my age (45 years young). If it were not for Institute Marquès, I wouldn’t have conceived. Dr. Moffa who is no longer with the clinic treated me. My first IVF cycle had failed possibly due to surgery. Although I have fibroids as many women do, these tumors were benign. The noncancerous growths in the uterus did cause prolonged periods. The biggest threat was a polyp inside my uterus. Institute Marquès did remove it successfully. The process was quick. Recovery was easy.
When I learned about the migrant children being separated from their parents by Trump-zero Tolerance policy on immigration, I had to put my second IVF cycle on hold. On July Fourth 2018, the world watch me become one of the most powerful advocates for migrant children terrorized at our southern border.
I’ve become the voice for the voiceless. “The words children and cages do not go together; yet, our government has continued its practice of ripping tender-aged migrants from nursing mothers and putting thousands of children in cages despite court rulings against these unlawful policies.
Now, you’ve watched me do my civic duty by positively contributing to the plight of migrant children. You’ve heard me condemn the callous manner in which U.S. Custom Border Patrol (CBP) and Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) has treated The Children. You’ve witnessed me avoid a year-and-half in prison. You’ve followed and supported the completion of my 200 hours of community service. You’ve celebrated my pregnancy. Would you be there for my miracle baby and I?
Let’s cross our fingers and pray for the sake and dignity of our country.
